It says in the 12 & 12 that the first Step is the only one that can be practiced with absolute perfection.
While I think this statement is true, I think people make more out of this than it is to feel like they’re working on something. When presented with the facts in the first 64 pages of the Big Book and the Doctor’s Opinion, it is a very simple thing to know if I am or am not an alcoholic. That’s not to say it didn’t take me time to reconcile. It did. The real difficulty for me was finding the information I needed to digest.
If I drink against my own will and when I start, I dont have control over when I end, I am an alcoholic. That’s that. It doesn’t matter how good or bad my life is.
My life wasn’t unmanageable because of my drinking. I could always seem to work in more tragedy 😂 My life was unmanageable, SO I drank. Not knowing how to handle my feelings any other way but drinking or lashing out is what made my life unmanageable.
